Chapter 6: The Gifts
You're probably wondering why Chinggis Khaan was so great (other than the fact that he was an awesome military leader) right now. Here's why:
-
He made the Silk Road safe - By bringing the Silk Road under the control of the Mongols, he made sure that he kept it safe. This encouraged trade between the West, Middle East, and Asia. Through the Silk Road, many different ideas and inventions were traded including the cannon. Rice also became a staple food in Persia through the silk road.
-
Religious freedom was a no-brainer for his empire - Religious freedom is something that we often associate with modern society. Chinggis Khaan was one of the first proponents of religious freedom. Because his religion was connected to the land, he saw no reason for others to adopt it, and thus, gave everyone religious freedom.
-
His government was based on skill rather than family ties (meristocracy for the win!) - This was one of the first instances of such a thing happening. Compared to other governments at the time, it was a huge leap towards modern democracy.
-
He made Korea and Russia - The Mongols were able to unite the respective Russian and Korean states into bigger states, which would later become the nation of Russia and Korea.
-
He lowered global Carbon levels - This is too weird to explain. Just read this.
Now, the finale.
